Lemon Essential Oil has historically been recognized for its cleansing and purifying properties and for being antiseptic, refreshing and cooling. The fruit was well known in Europe by the middle ages, and Greeks and Romans were advocates of its therapeutic properties. Lemon essential oil reached the height of its fame when the British began using the citrus fruit to counteract the effects of scurvy on long naval voyages. 

When using on the skin, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Diluting with a carrier oil for skin application is recommended. Unless you are working directly with a highly qualified practitioner who has been specifically trained in essential oil pharmacology, it is not advisable to take internally.
